George Meister died after a prolonged two year illness. The obituary notes his career, family ties, and the dates and place of service, honoring his life and public service. He was well known in the community and leaves behind several relatives.
George Meister, wealthy retired farmer of this city, died at his home Thursday night after a two year illness. Born May 1, 1844 in Walt, Hesse Kassel, Germany, he came to America at age two with his family. He married Elizabeth Rueppel in 1865. two children, Kathryn and Christina, survived the first union. After a second marriage to Anna Kathryn Stutzel in 1873, five more children were born. Funeral at the Lutheran church Saturday morning, Rev. Wm. Stauffenberg officiating. Interment at Franklin Grove beside his first wife. Meister moved to Ashton four years ago. He was described as a devoted husband and loving father, with strong faith in God and humanity.
The annual union Thanksgiving service will be held next Thursday at 10 o clock in the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev T Elmer Stevens of the Presbyterian church delivering the sermon. After services the Methodist ladies will serve their annual dinner in the church basement. Rev Fred L Baldwin of the Methodist church will preach the Thanksgiving sermon at the Presbyterian church in Franklin Grove.
The Rochelle Poultry and Seed Corn Association will hold its annual exhibition in Rochelle from December 15 through 21. A 78 page catalogue signals a record event likely to eclipse previous poultry shows in the area.
The section notes liberal cash premiums and 270 special prizes in the poultry department. The corn exhibit is expected to be strong. Classes one and two are open to all. class three for fall boys under 18 in Lee, Ogle, and DeKalb counties. R. F. Harter, secretary, will mail catalogues from Rochelle.
Friday night in the Lee County Circuit Court a crowd of several hundred gathered for the hanging of portraits honoring Judges Heaton Eustace and Crabtree. Judge Farrand presided with judges Cartwright Dibell and Heard in attendance as speakers praised the judges and the event. Portraits by artist Connors of Amboy were praised as beautiful showcases of the honorees.
John Schade Augusta Oesterheld Carl Krug and George Krug are home after finishing tile painting and exterior and interior work for William Schade under the county contract. The group completed the jail improvement project.
