War Relief Drive Set for Next Monday in Ashton Township
Ashton Township voters are urged to contribute to a district war relief drive on Monday November 11 with a township quota of 1668 dollars for agencies including the YMCA YWCA National Catholic War Council Jewish Welfare Board War Camp Community Service and Salvation Army. Each adult 18 or older must pay a specified amount and those who fail to respond will be reported as delinquents. Readership is reminded that Franklin Grove Lafayette and Reynolds townships recently outpaced Ashton in promptness and are urged to meet or exceed their neighbors' performance. Benjamin Schafer youngest son of Mr and Mrs George F Schafer died of pneumonia on a ship at sea and was buried in South America.

Harry Altenberg Killed in Action in France
Mr and Mrs William Altenberg of Franklin Grove learned Monday their son Harry was killed in action in France. A brother of Charles Altenberg who lives on the Billmire farm, Harry was among the first Ogle county men to leave for service, from Camp Grant to Houston and then France, where he saw heavy fighting since the Fourth of July. Mrs Harry Quick and son James Howard visited from Dixon yesterday morning.
