Monument to Civil War soldier to stand 20 feet high
Ashton plans a granite soldier monument in Ashi cemetery honoring two local veterans who answered their country's call fifty years ago. The Barre granite shaft, 20 feet tall and weighing 17 tons, will crown a four inch square base with a full size Civil War uniformed figure. Gall & Co. of Chicago will carve and erect the piece, with unveiling anticipated late April 1916.
