The Ashton five day Chautauqua opens June 18 featuring the Kilties Band of nineteen pieces in full Scottish uniforms. Death of Elmer Baxter in Delavan After Long Illness
Elmer Baxter a Delavan resident for over thirty years died at his West Second street home at 10 30 Friday night May 14 from Brights disease after months of declining health He was born August 31 1862 in Shenandoah New York and moved to Illinois with his family in early childhood He married Emma Alice Alexander November 24 1898 and is survived by wife four children Alice David Hazel Marjorie and sister Mrs George Alexander He joined the Baptist church in 1892 The funeral was held at his residence Monday afternoon conducted by Rev William H Gleiser of the Presbyterian church the community mourns his loss.

Ashton eighth grade graduation invites and roster
The Ashton public school eighth grade class invites attenders to the promotion exercises in the high school auditorium next Wednesday evening June 2. The eleven pupils include six girls and five boys. Instructor Mr. John Absher helped prepare the program, with colors old rose and white and the pink rose as the flower. The class motto is Energy Wins the Way.

Ira W. Lewis Dies at 72 in Dixon
Ira W. Lewis deputy circuit clerk of Lee county died at his Dixon home yesterday morning at 8 15 following a stroke. He was 72. Lewis served Lee county as circuit clerk three times and had 42 years in the office. He was appointed circuit clerk after Wm. B. McMahon's death and later assisted by Edwin S. Rosecrans. A well known figure at the courthouse, he was a Bible class teacher for more than 50 years.

Death of Bernice Anna Bode 15 weeks old
Bernice Anna Bode died at home Monday at one o'clock after a brief illness. Born February 10, she was 15 weeks old. Funeral held Tuesday at two o'clock from the home, Rev. R. L. MacWherter of the Presbyterian church preached comfort to the bereaved. Mr and Mrs C Bennett of Chicago, relatives of Mrs Bode, attended. Mr and Mrs Arthur Kersten visited Mrs Kersten's sister at Rochelle hospital yesterday.

Ashton Picnic Aims For Largest Town Event With Bands
The Ash ton picnic plans for June 8th are nearly complete with about 25 events and 50 prizes. Two bands, the Ashton and Lafayette bands, will play. A ball game against a team from Bradford Reynolds and Lafayette townships is expected to draw crowds. Voting for a handpainted tankard at Eisenberg's store closes June 5th with a high turnout expected. Community members attended hospital visits and family events yesterday.
