Senator Hughes Dies After Fall From Horse in Missouri
Prominent Dixon figure Senator Charles H. Hughes died Sunday afternoon at Excelsior Springs Missouri from injuries after a horse incident. He was 61, survived by his mother and daughter Adessa Mrs E H Brewster with funeral set for Sunday at 1 30 at his home.

Ashton Loses to Franklin Grove in Season Opener
The first Ashton High School baseball game ended 8 to 6 in favor of Franklin Grove after a tight battle. Franklin Grove used two outsiders, while Ashton fielded a strictly high school team. Both sides traded runs early, with a seventh inning rally by Franklin Grove giving them the lead. Ashton protested briefly but played on, errors aside, and the crowd, including the high school girls in colors, stayed engaged as umpire Herman Jonker kept the game on the square.
