Dixon Cut Off to Be Built Soon
The Northwestern cut off from Nachusa to Nelson will span twelve miles and be built this year as the Lee County Railroad. Incorporated at $10,000 with 100 shares, the lineup includes Marvin Hughitt, J. M. Whitman, W. A. Gardner, H. R. McCullough, J. B. Redfield. The line will be double tracked to remove the Dixon grade and connect with the Chicago to Mississippi four track scheme.

Collection of Indian Relics Captures Prairie Past
Franklin Grove resident Mr George Newcomer has spent thirty five years gathering an enormous collection of Indian relics and prehistoric tools. The display includes about 2300 chipped stone pieces such as spear points axes fleshers and idols made from agate corian chalcedony opal jasper and other materials. An eight foot tall monument holds 807 arrow heads while a wide range of relics like mortars pipes and game stones illustrate mound builder culture. Newcomer says the items were collected across northern Illinois during his travels for business and the collection offers insight into early prairie life. A closing sale at Trein's presents graduating presents opportunities to purchase.

Death Comes Quickly John J Hoffmaster Dies at Chana
John J Hoffmaster of Rochelle dies of pneumonia at Chana early Saturday morning just one week after illness. His body ships to Brownsville Maryland near Hagerstown for burial Monday. He was 45, formerly farmer in White Rock township, later cashier of the T G Southworth bank at Chana. He leaves a mother, four brothers and three sisters. A new time card will take effect at noon Sunday May 20 with added Sunday service. No 131 will stop at Ashton. change to train No 5 at Dixon for points beyond Clinton.
