William S. Brierton Dies at Dixon After Illness
William S. Brierton of Dixon died Friday morning after four months of illness from Bright's disease and emphysema. Born November 25, 1839 in Nachusa township, he was a farmer with a large estate and one of twelve children. A Republican from Lincoln’s era, he was active in Masonic circles, a past grand commander of Dixon Commandery No. 21, Knights Templar, and his funeral Sunday afternoon was led by the Blue Lodge Masons with a commandery escort.
