NO CHANGE IN APPOINTMENT S A Petrie Chosen City Treasurer

A special meeting of the city council closed the past fiscal year with all members present. Nathan A. Petrie was appointed city treasurer for the coming year without compensation, noting 15 years in the post without remuneration. William B. Farrey became City Marshall Street Superintendent and Gas Plant Manager at 70 dollars monthly. New council members Christ Kurth and Herman Mall joined after adjournment.

National Parks Lecture at Sublette High School

Next Monday evening Nat M Brigham of Wisconsin will present an illustrated talk on Our National Parks in the Sublette High School auditorium. Brigham a Harvard graduate and former Harvard glee club soloist will also perform one or two solos during the program.

Senior Class Play Brings Full House at Ashton Opera House

The annual Senior Class Play The Sweet Girl Graduate drew a crowded Ashton audience last Friday. Miss Marie Strube starred, with Ernest Kersten as her witty suitor and others providing strong support. The program also notes Epworth League events and a gypsy visit, along with a man’s eye care day and a Sunday School convention outline for Sublette and nearby towns.

Prominent Utah Marshal to Lecture on National Parks

A veteran of thirty years in the western territories is described as the United States marshal of Utah for eight years and a platform speaker for eight more. He comes highly recommended and will lecture on Our National Parks under the Senior class auspices. Admission is 15 and 25 cents.

Bureau county boards move to abolish tax collector office

Bureau county supervisors Thursday afternoon voted unanimously to urge a bill that would shift tax collection from the township tax collector to the county treasurer. The measure would also adjust timing for personal property taxes in fall and real estate taxes in spring, with copies sent to state officials and county clerks. A separate note reports a going away party for the Schnell family near Ashton, and a pick up baseball game in Rochelle where Rochelle defeated Ashton 10 to 8.

New Postage Stamps and Money Order Changes Announced

Notice from Washington warns money orders will be payable at any post office after July 1 though issued as payable at a designated office. New stamp denominations seven nine twelve and thirty cents to be issued with designs including Franklin. A stray boy inquiry and a sale of a paper route are also noted along with Memorial Day observance plans and a Gazette annual price.

Dr Stanley Foot Specialist to Visit Ashton Saturday May 9

Dr. Stanley, renowned foot surgeon, will host an all day clinic at Kron's Hotel in Ashton on Saturday May 9. He offers treatment for corns bunions ingrown nails and other foot ailments with Schall Gilbert arch supports and fitting machine for precise arch support. 1916 Calendars and farm land values pitch to boys

An ad touts 1915 calendars and urges the community to buy, noting land at 160 dollars per acre and a square rod for a dollar. It extols a boy saving a dime to learn value and imagines a tiny farm from small sums. It emphasizes thrift and future wealth.

Men’s Bible Class Passes 100 Mark at Sunday School

The Methodist Episcopal Sunday school Class No. 6 led by A. W. Rosecrans drew 109 men to study the lesson, the highest attendance in years. Overall Sunday school attendance reached 262 with 85 women, as the class continues steady growth and teaches bible study.
