Enthusiasm and determination marked the New Era Victory Drive as the church surpassed its goal and Franklin Grove church also went over the top. Pastor William H. Manshardt praises the host of friends for support and hospitality inviting strangers to attend services.
Miss Hazel Hedrick and Fred Krum married Monday noon March 13 at the Hedrick home in Haldane. Rev Samuel Plum performed the ceremony. The bride wore blue satin. The groom, in United States uniform, is an auctioneer from Lincoln township Ogle County. They will reside at Haldane.
A large Thursday prayer service crowd filled the meeting, then the pastor and family returned home to a social, well supplied scene. Food and groceries were found, suggesting generous gifts. The event ended with singing led by Mrs Charters and Christian Endeavor oversight. the preacher notes the account.
The Franklin Grove High School Junior Class to stage a play titled Bride and Groom in Lincoln Hall on Friday night March 28 at 8 o clock Admission 30 cents. Cast includes Dr Ray Bancroft the groom Lesslie Weybright Judge Andy Dusenberry Carl Dugdale Jerry Cronin Courtney Smith Sad Eyed Wallace Richard Buck Ralph Spangler Chloe Tollertoo the bride Maude Norris Miss Eudora Lodge Pearl Albrecht Kathleen Cronin Evalyn Patch Emmaline Diges Anne Sanders Maggie Ruth Whitney and others. The Illinois conference of the United Evangelical church adjourned at Barrington. Bishop W Heil announced district appointments across Chicago, Freeport, El Paso, and other towns, naming presiding elders and deputies for numerous congregations. Also noted were upcoming town elections in Ashton and Bradford with limited candidates for supervisor and school officials.
Rev Silas M Mosteller born November 24 1870 in southern Indiana died March 16 1919 in Chicago. Ordained in Western Indiana Christian Conference he preached over twenty three years in Indiana Canada New York Ohio Illinois. Married Ida M Hunt August 4 1897 at Merom Indiana. they had Marion Hunt and George Andrew. He leaves wife two sons mother brothers sisters and many relatives.
At about seven Saturday morning at the Lincoln Way Evans Avenue intersection near the old town well George H. Kersten was struck while crossing diagonally. Driver William Ventler in a Ford could not see him due to sun glare and Mc Cade was along. Kersten suffered severe bruises but no broken bones as the wheels passed over his belt.
Mr and Mrs Henry C Smith and family express gratitude to relatives neighbors and friends for help fruit and post cards during their illness published in the Gazette at $2.00 per year
Chicago & North Western representatives met with village leaders to discuss adding protection at crossings after the eight hour law reduced flagman hours. Flagmen now leave at five pm instead of seven, leaving crossings unprotected during peak traffic. The village argues that safety justifies railroad funding, hoping for a favorable decision to prevent potential injuries or deaths.
The United Evangelical Church lists services on March 80th in Ashton with 9:30 Bible School and 10:30 Preaching followed by 6:15 K L E led by Miss Alma Mall and 7:15 Preaching. Bradford services at 1:20 Bible School and 2:30 Preaching. After a successful conference, appointments were announced and the pastor resumed his Ashton pastorate. E. K. Yeakel, Pastor.
Miss Genevieve Randall will lead the Epworth League meeting at six thirty Sunday evening. The topic is The Practice of Kindness with a cordial welcome and special music. Tomorrow, March 28, marks the 80th anniversary of Ashton’s great fire wiping out much of the business district.
More than 800 attended revival services last Sunday with numerous conversions and a day of victory for the Lord Jesus. Week plans include Thursday repentance with Mr. Preston singing The Ninety and Nine and Friday New Birth with The Holy City. Sunday features Methodist services at 9 30 Bible School and 10 30 preaching with communion Baptism and new members welcome. Evening service at 7 30 on Mans Ways Against Gods Ways. Clerks are reminded to set clocks forward one hour for Daylight Saving.
