The Cornell college orchestra delivered a fine Saturday evening concert to about 500 in attendance with standout solos by Mrs. Shaw and Miss Randall both earning encores. A sacred Sunday program at the Methodist church matched the quality, inspiring local listeners and prompting hopes for future visits by Mr. Miller and his ensemble.
Roy Heibenthal opened a new Variety Store in the former Frank Eisenberg room with strong first day trade. The interior was refreshed with blue woodwork repapering and electric lighting. New stock includes groceries notions novelties confectionery dishes and graniteware. A reception for Lutheran pastor Rev E W Kuethe of Amboy was held at William Pohle's with about 120 guests and a silverware set and rocker presented. A large La Moille fire destroyed 12 buildings in Bureau county with $50 000 loss and little insurance. Agricultural short course at Mount Morris College praised for quality instruction by six university professors and local experts. Seed corn for sale 1914 corn 96 percent grew.
L S Griffith the new Lee County soil expert addressed about 100 farmers in Ashton. He outlined association work, oat recleaning and grading to boost yields, and alfalfa prospects. The meeting covered germination testing, seed corn, and upcoming sessions as well as publicity costs from major magazines.

Yesterday and overnight a severe blizzard delivered heavy snow from eight inches to two feet, with thunder and hail surrounding a rapidly changing spring weather scene. The town awoke to white streets and below freezing temperatures as the storm raged and then diminished.
The high school will stage Lust- A Chaperon in the auditorium Friday evening as a sure cure for the blues. Tickets are on sale at the Gazette Book Store with sales progress satisfactory. A town hall meeting Tuesday planned Memorial Day observances and monument dedication. program printing is delayed to next week.
Illinois conference adjourned at Naperville naming Rev. Joseph G. Eller for a third year at the United Evangelical church amid extended tenure rules. Alvin Johnson, son of Rev. J. H. Johnson, received a license to preach as the conference planned to meet next year at Polo.
