Nina Bowers Dies in Chicago at 24 in 1905

Nina May Bowers, daughter of Mr and Mrs Laurence Bowers, was born near Ashton on July 26 1880 and died in Chicago Monday morning March 20 1905 after a period of illness. She lived with Mrs Harry Stein of Gross Park during her illness and was active in the Methodist church. Funeral services were held at her home and then at the Methodist Church with Rev J R Hamilton officiating.

James S Johnson dies in Nebraska after Illinois birth

James S Johnson born Darby Plains Ohio September 7 1831 died University Place Nebraska March 13 1905. He moved with his parents to Ogle county Illinois as a boy and married Nancy Chambers at age 23. They had two children Joseph F and Mary E who survive. Remains returned to Illinois Friday and interred at Washington Grove Cemetery.

Mystery Cleared Body of Paw Paw Man Covell Found

The body of John C. Covell, 48, a longtime clerk at R A Hopps store, was found in a barn after two months missing. Decomposition by rats left facial flesh missing, identification by clothes and letters. coroner’s jury cites unknown cause, with a vial found nearby suggesting possible self harm amid illness and financial concern.

A pool room burglary was reported. a knee operation and a near-wreck on a delivery run also appeared in the week’s items.

Dixon Revival Ends After 1340 Converts and $8,400 for YMCA

Rev Wm Sunday closes Dixon revival after five weeks with 1340 converts and total $14,300 raised for YMCA work. Sunday alone raises $8,400 for a building. Attendance highs include 93 converts Saturday night, 15 Sunday, 46 Monday night. Local papers credit wide publicity for the surge. Also notes a 53 Sundays year and US currency statistics.

Dunkard Services and Sidewalk Proposal Before Election

Preaching at the old Free Methodist Church is set for Sunday April 2 at 2 30 p m by the Dunkard brethern. A town election on Tuesday April 4 will consider a cement sidewalk from the city to the cemetery.

A citizen's meeting will be held at City hall on Thursday April 6 at 2 30 p m to arrange the Old Soldiers and Sailors reunion to be held in Ashton this summer. All are invited. President C K Norrurovp invites attendance.

Birthday Party for Mrs Adam Faber

Friday night a birthday party honored Mrs Adam Faber for her twenty fifth birthday. Friends and relatives, with some children, gathered at her home and enjoyed a fine time. Supper was served about 11, guests left by midnight and she received a beautiful rug as a birthday gift. The Citizens League will meet at the Presbyterian Church next Tuesday at 7:30. W J Stevenson president, Wm Lesslie secretary. Editors have their troubles as two subscribers requested advice on twins and grasshoppers. The editor mailed replies wrongly. twins should be covered with straw and set fire to it, while grasshoppers should be treated with castor oil and gum rubbed with a bone.
