Pioneer Dugdale Died In Ogle County Illinois At 83

A long obituary notes Charles E Dugdale born March 15 1822 in Yorkshire England sailed then across the Great Lakes to Illinois. He lived fifty years in his Ogle County home, married Helen M Coakley in 1848 and had six children. Funeral held at Washington Grove Christian church with Elder Conner of Dixon officiating.

The 1906 Methodist Year Book reports U S and church growth with total membership surpassing 3.1 million, Illinois at 220313 members, and Pennsylvania leading at about 320000. It notes 28728 churches valued at 142,539,919 dollars, 33384 Sunday schools serving 2,872,974 scholars, and 149 educational institutions totaling 63,914 students with endowment over sixteen million dollars. The Epworth League circulates the Epworth Herald at 135000.

Ice Gorge Breaks Sunday Cuts Bridge and Tracks

A massive ice gorge on the Rock River at Sterling broke Sunday noon, destroying the Avenue G bridge spans and damaging the Northwestern tracks near Sterling. Five miles of Como bottoms flooded, with many farmhouses surrounded by water. Estimated losses exceed $100,000, and many bridges along a 28 mile stretch were damaged. The events followed by a lecture announcement at Reynolds Evang elical church by Rev. Wm. A. Schutte.
