20 Autos Make Trip to Starved Rock

Twenty autos carrying 110 Ashton residents journeyed to Deer Park and Starved Rock last Thursday. The group traveled from Ashton via Mendota La Salle and Ottawa returning by Paw Paw and Steward, facing mud and tire repairs but reporting a delightful outing with plans for a Lake Geneva trip and potential auto club formation.

Ashton Autos Draw Mendota Fans For July 4 Rally

Nineteen Ashton autos visited Mendota on Thursday morning lining Main Street to promote a grand July 4 celebration at Starved Rock. The crowd praised notable locals including Banker Yenerich while missing Editor Ralph Dean. The Troubadour Musical company will perform at the opera house Thursday evening with seats at 10 20 and 30 cents. Mr and Mrs Freeze of Sibley Iowa were guests of Nathan Sanders and family.

Large Estate Probated in Ashton Township

In county court Monday an inventory of the estate of David George of Ashton township was filed showing value of 226865.94 chiefly in real estate. Executors are Mr and Mrs Chas Weybreight. she is the deceased’s daughter and sole direct heir, with five grandchildren. Jason Ayres is the attorney.

Special election called in Ashton Illinois on water works bonds

Public notice states a special election will be held in the Village of Ashton Lee County Illinois on July 11 1912 at the Town Hall to vote on issuing bonds of 36500 for a water works system. Polls open 7 am to 5 pm with J C Wetzel J W Randall and Chas Tuck as judges and H C Nelson Henry Oesterheld E J Randall as clerks.

Jlight Co Seeks Fifty Year Power Franchise

A special city council session Monday discussed granting a fifty year franchise to Illinois Northern Utilities Company which now owns Oregon Power Company assets. The issue is tabled for one week and to be revisited at the July meeting. The proposed terms cut meter inspection to one dollar and minimum to fifty cents monthly, with overall power rates expected to be cheaper.

Public highway contracts opened in Ashton Illinois 1912

Sealed proposals in Ashton Lee County Illinois will be received July 8 1912 for rock macadam road work across multiple sections. Plans and specs are at the town clerk’s office. Bids require a 500 dollar certified check and may be rejected.

Ashton Ready for Big Fourth Celebration

Ashton gears up for the Glorious Fourth with a full day program headlined by a nine oclock band concert featuring the Lafayette and Woodmen bands. A calithumpian parade follows at 9:30, with an Edwards address at 10. Afternoon races, a 3:30 ball game between Steward and Ashton, an eight oclock fireworks show, and a Troubadours concert dance in the opera house promise a lively city celebration.

Local Pool Room Receives New Fixtures and Erection Underway

Oscar Schade has received the new pool room fixtures and a factory man is present to erect the tables. August Griese, Will Griese, and L. T. Moore returned Saturday evening from a business trip through Minnesota and North Dakota.
