20 Autos Make Trip to Starved Rock

Nineteen Ashton autos visited Mendota on Thursday morning lining Main Street to promote a grand July 4 celebration at Starved Rock. The crowd praised notable locals including Banker Yenerich while missing Editor Ralph Dean. The Troubadour Musical company will perform at the opera house Thursday evening with seats at 10 20 and 30 cents. Mr and Mrs Freeze of Sibley Iowa were guests of Nathan Sanders and family.

A special city council session Monday discussed granting a fifty year franchise to Illinois Northern Utilities Company which now owns Oregon Power Company assets. The issue is tabled for one week and to be revisited at the July meeting. The proposed terms cut meter inspection to one dollar and minimum to fifty cents monthly, with overall power rates expected to be cheaper.
