June Weddings of Ashton Residents Abroad and at Home

A series of Ashton area weddings is recounted. Emma C Heibenthal and Erven John Venerich wed at the Heibenthal home in Ashton with 35 guests, the ceremony led by Rev J G Eller. Mabel K Eisenberg married Ross G Bratton at the bride’s mother's home, continuing to Franklin Grove. Additionally Samuel M Goode and Edna Bates wed in Urbana, while Eva Rowley and J P Dergeron tied the knot in Chicago, with tailored futures in their professions.

A J Mickey reports from Long Beach in mid June, describing rapid city growth from 3,000 to 48,000, schools with about 19,000 pupils and 200 to 31 teachers, large churches including Grace M E, a 24 member municipal band funded at 36000 annually, two Catalina Island boats, 35 miles of paved streets, and widespread Ford auto ownership with yearly taxes around 10 dollars.

Henry Sachs Died Sud­denly At 53 In Ogle County

Henry Sachs age 53 from four miles northeast of Aahion in Ogle County died mid day after a brief illness. He had been under medical care this spring and cancer is suspected. He was in town the night before his death, a shock to neighbors. Obituary next week. Charles Taubenheim, brother of Mrs Frank Mehlhausen, died Sunday night at her Franklin Grove home. Funeral held yesterday. William Cleary and family of Rochelle visited Mrs. Cleary’s mother Gertrude Kliebe over Sunday.

May Locate Gil Staton Tank Station Near Ashton

James J. Johnson of Johnson Oil Refining Co of Chicago Heights visited Ashton to establish a distributing station. Plans include two 20 000 gallon tanks for kerosene and gasoline, a warehouse for oils and greases, truck delivery, with Frank P. Eisenberg to manage the operation.

Gazet te Man Completes a Decade in Ashton Press

Piano Tuning and Train Accident on South Side Track

Freight engine 1909 left rails on the south side track near the pumping station during Tuesday afternoon switching around 1 15. The track spread causing the engine to ground. Clinton steam wrecker replaced the big mogul around 5 80. Track men worked late to repair the track.

Engine Strikes Young Man on Lincoln Highway Crossing

Roger V. Flory of Chicago was walking across the Lincoln Highway when struck by a North Western freight engine. He was unconscious, with head injuries and a back injury, taken to a doctor and then to a room at Mrs Kathryn Meister's residence. His mother was summoned once he regained consciousness. The rest of the passage details social events and notices from the community, including a miscellaneous shower for Miss Emma Heidenthal and Miss Mabel Eisenberg, a Loyal Daughters gathering, an upcoming Troubadours concert at the Pastime theatre, and a note about Dr. Carlson's eye fitting clinic at Dr Bremmer's office on June 30. The notices conclude with Ernest Kron departing for St Paul after visiting his father.

School opens September seven with new teachers listed

Bids invited for grading the yard and cement sidewalks as the public school prepares for the coming year. The corps of teachers is expanded with three new names including the high school principal and primary teacher. September 7 is set as opening day.

Presbyterian Sunday School Picnic at Steamboat Rock

The Sunday school at Steamboat Rock will hold a picnic next Tuesday at Steam boat Rock. Those without conveyances meet at the church at 9 a m. If rain Tuesday, the picnic will be moved to Thursday. Henry Thomas was a business caller in Peoria last week.
