Delegates Gather for Woman's Missionary Convention in Ashton
A two day to four day event at the United Evangelical Church in Ashton drew delegates for the Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Convention. Mrs Emma Divan presided with Rev J H Johnson welcoming attendees and speakers from Freeport Naperville and Dixon highlighting missionary work and training. Delegates heard reports on funds progress and plans for city and foreign missions as officers were elected and a strong local civic tone governed sessions.

Pioneer Griese Dies After Long Emigrant Life in New Jersey
John Griese born April 15 1837 in Heinebach Hessen Germany died July 11 1907 in Ashton New Jersey aged 76 years 2 months 26 days. Emigrated 1864 with family to Olds Township later joining Evangelical Association in 1872. Survived by widow Maria, one son William Griese, three daughters Mrs Geo Hewert Mrs John Eisenberg Mrs H Kersten one adopted daughter Mrs William Vaupel, a brother and three sisters and twelve grandchildren. He was a lifelong church member and held offices in the Evangelical Association.

Travel on the Increase Despite Two Cent Fare
The two cent a mile rate boosts Northwestern travel from this station. For the second week of July closing Saturday, ticket sales reached 373 dollars versus 114.76 last year. Train No 25 no longer stopping at Ashton reduces local travel, many riders heading to Chicago. Western travel surges as Ashton remains a coupon station. Epworth League Hosts Ghost Themed Social Night
A well attended three cornered social by the Epworth League raised 29 dollars and 45 cents. Seventeen ghosts appeared in acts at the Sindlinger and Lesslie homes with witches and kettle tune performances. Ice cream and cake served on the Dean lawn to 191 guests. The article also notes hunter license law penalties with fines starting at 25 dollars.
