Passing of an Old Landmark in Northern Lee County

The old stone barn on the Hodge farm near Ashton is likely to be razed this spring to make way for a modern dwelling after its lot was bought by Wm. Wiener at the Hutchinson sale. Octogenarian Groom Finds Long Lost Sweetheart in Wheaton

Oliver W. Gordon of Wheaton Ill nearly eighty takes as his bride Mrs Sarah Beach the sweetheart of his youth after meeting at a Salvation Army gathering following a G A R Encampment. Death Angel Remov'd Two Daughters in 1907 Funeral Rites

A local obituary column notes the death of Phila Moore wife of M. S. Moore of Ashton on January 17, 1907, age 61, with four sons named Laben Moore Geo E Moore Frank R Moore and H Otto Moore. Liquor Sellin g Scandal Leads to Fines and Crusade Reach

Nicholas Schuchart pled guilty to sixteen counts of selling liquor without a license and paid 427.50 in fines and costs. Besse Gilbert also paid 20 and costs on two counts. Fire Company appoints committee to meet city council

Ashton Fire Company held a special meeting at city hall to review the membership, drop several members, and admit nine new active members including Wm. Lesslie and P. Erich. A new committee of Fire chief, J. M. Trostle, James Leidy and J. Vaupel will confer with the village board on extending hose and hydrants. A Feb. 15 meeting will hear the council’s decision.
