The community mourns the death of Mrs Wilbert N Dunton of Rochelle aged about 50 leaving six children. She had lived in Rochelle since moving from a Stone Ridge/Kansas upbringing and was a devout Methodist. Funeral service set for 2:30 PM at the Rochelle Methodist Episcopal church with Eastern Star and Rebekah lodges in charge.
Death of Mrs E H Blackman Rochelle matriarch passes at 83
Mrs E H Blackman of Rochelle aged 83 3 months and 15 days died Sunday at 7 30 am She was born Fanny Horton September 27 1829 in Bradford County PA and married Elijah H Blackman February 12 1851 They came to Illinois in 1853 and settled near Flag Center later moving to Rochelle Her husband died in 1901 After three sons and two daughters survive plus fifteen grandchildren four great grandchildren and a granddaughter Ada Rose Jonker The Baptist member spoke last words The river is dark We must all cross it and I know My Redeemer liveth The funeral will be held at 1 30 pm from her Rochelle home Rev Stevens officiating

Pioneer merchant John A Andrus dies after long illness
John A. Andrus, early city merchant and law practitioner, died at his home at seven oclock Tuesday morning after months of arterial sclerosis. Funeral at his residence tomorrow at two oclock. Born November 30 1833 in Stephentown New York he moved west as a schoolteacher later owned Ashton Illinois store and aided churches and public works. Survived by two daughters Mrs J C Griffith and Miss Elizabeth Andrus and his wife Rhoda Siple.

The Franklin Grove Reporter changed ownership as Joh C. Cook sold the paper to Bela R. Halderman who has served as assistant and will run the publication. The note wishes Halderman success, while Lewis Payne remains ill in his hotel room with Grace Williams helping care for him. Mr and Mrs Rutledge of Pennsylvania arrived Tuesday, and Payne’s brother came from Dixon. Rochelle was noted yesterday afternoon.

Gleim Farm House Burned and Bank Stockholders Meet
A large farm house on the Adam Gleim farm six miles south of town was destroyed by fire around 9:45 AM. The blaze started in the attic area likely from a defective chimney. much of the home and furnishings were lost, with only some bedding and furniture saved. Insurance covered the dwelling and contents. Also reported: Ashton Bank stockholders held their annual meeting with most stock represented, electing a five-member board and approving surplus funding. Revival meetings continue at United Evangelical church with strong attendance. Paul Hurd received a promotion to station agent at Glen Ellyn on the Chicago & North Western line. Fred Wood was assigned as agent at Flagg.

Sanders Set for Murder Trial in Mother-in-law Case
Warren Sanders was brought to court last Thursday as his trial date is set for next Monday at 1 30 pm for the murder of his mother in law Mrs George E Griffith. The shooting occurred at the Northwestern depot in the city on Sunday morning August 18 1912. Judge Farrand ordered an extra panel of 100 veniremen to report with jurors for the second and third weeks and many witnesses from the city have been summoned.

Fire alarm saves home as blaze breaks out at McCade residence
The fire bell rang at 4 16 Tuesday afternoon drawing residents out as smoke appeared at Theodore McCade's home. Griffith and helper Walter aided with a ladder but the blaze erupted before access. A chemical extinguisher quickly quenched the fire, likely starting from a chimney. W B McCrea rang the bell and Gus Kries visited Dixon yesterday.
