Ashton Approves New School House Bond Issue
In a special election Monday the district approved building a new school house and levying 25000 for payment, 156 for and 3 against. A three hour poll opened one to four pm with 260 male voters in the district. The contract for the new building will be let tomorrow and work will proceed rapidly, with the old 43 year old structure to be torn down once the plans and specs are met. The board has detailed plans and the new Ashton's school is touted as a fine, regional benchmark.

W A Band Cleared Eighty Dollars At Basket Social
The M W A band boys held a basket social last Thursday with a large turnout. It netted 64 dollars to aid their many expenses. An opera house entertainment preceded a local talent play The White Shawl which drew hearty laughter. A German band led by Faust Boyd, with members Kurth Orner Attig Knapp and Aschenbrenner impressed audiences with polished costumes. Lunch baskets were auctioned by Frank D Kelley of Franklin Grove.
