Funeral Held for Emily J. Walker Pioneer of Ashton
Emily J. Walker longtime Ashton resident died at home Sunday morning after several weeks illness. She was born April 7 1846 in Illinois and aged 73 years eight months seven days. Funeral services were conducted at the late home and Washington Grove Christian church with burial in Washington Grove cemetery. Survived by sister Mrs. Clark of Omaha and nephew Isaac Trask of Dixon among others.

Closing ban lifted as coal strike ends
The fuel conservation orders are rescinded after a coal strike settlement in Ashton. Businesses reopen to normal hours and passenger service on the North Western resumes.
