John M. Burnham a Civil War veteran died at his Ashton home after a brief illness. Born September 21 1843 in Grosstown New Hampshire he lived 45 years in Ashton and married Alvina Brown. Survived by son Mark and daughter Vernie. funeral held Monday with Masonic and Woodmen escorts and out of town attendees noted.

Seventy-Five Members Committee Appointed For Soil Talk
At the Lee County Soil Improvement Association annual meeting in Amboy, a committee of four was chosen to visit the Farmers Institute to discuss soil improvement. Membership was 375 with a goal of 450, and a soil expert will be engaged once the target is reached. Officers were re-elected and six directorate changes were made, including W. A. Kugler joining the executive committee. The group debated fee scales and considered renaming the body to Lee County Farm Bureau, but kept the old name.

Explosion injures former Ashton boy near Marion Iowa
Forrest W. Howe 28, Wells Fargo express messenger, was seriously injured when an explosion set fire to his car on a Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul train near Marion Iowa. A clockwork bomb was found among the ruins and the car could not be stopped. Howe and another messenger were taken to St Luke's hospital Cedar Rapids. Howe previously lived in Ashton and was born there. New Farmers Telephone directories issued for Amboy Ashton Franklin Grove Lee Center and Sublette with 77 copies printed and distributed through the Ashton Bank and office.
