Church Dedication Marks Large Expansion for United Evangelical
The United Evangelical church in Ashton celebrated its 17 year history with a three day dedication. Funds raised before dedication covered most of the cost, with $2,423.99 raised on Sunday. Total cost reached $6,620.67 and pre dedication subscriptions stood at $4,280.00. The church, praised as one of the finest for its size, includes German and English services led by Bishop Rudolph Dubs and local pastors. Adam Schafer and two sons visited Rochelle Monday.

New County Officers Installed At Court House
New county officers take office in Lee County with Sheriff Clarence Reid appointing Robert Phillips as chief deputy and John Cupp, William Harrison, John Abell named as deputies at Franklin Grove Amboy and Compton. Charles Pfetzing visited the High School last Tuesday while the usual monthly tests occurred this week. Snow halted boys basketball, and a heated room during winter was suggested. A Germany program next Friday invites attendance for inspiration. Sophomore party at Miss Minnie Krug’s home celebrated her birthday with games and refreshments. Saunders Co Gave Concert At Opera House
The Nellie Peck Saunders Company presented the second number of the Modern Woodman entertainment course to a good sized audience Tuesday evening. The trio consisted of Mrs. Saunders an impersonator, Mr. Milton Bertoli a baritone, and Miss Marie Barney a soprano and pianist. Encores greeted Mrs. Saunders impersonations and the solo work of Barney earned praise. The program closed with a sketch Behind the Scenes. Lafayette band boys held their annual banquet at Geo Orner's home where a surprise party was sprung for him. Orner received a leather Morris chair as thanks for his leadership during the year.

Charles Hawbecker Dies in Rochelle Funeral Held in Franklin Grove
Charles Hawbecker a Franklin Grove resident died Friday afternoon in Rochelle while handling Brethren church business. He fell on the porch after visiting with Rev. Heckman of Polo and was pronounced dead. An inquest was held. burial followed Tuesday at the Brethren church. He married Mary Lehman Buck in 1878 and leaves a wife, two step-daughters, three brothers, a sister, and other relatives. Funeral, Rev. Heckman officiating, earlier reports note an apron and fancy work sale by Lutheran ladies December 17 with supper service from five to eight. Cattle shipments by J A Kersten and Jacob Aschenbrenner and Willard Knapp occurred Monday night.
