Death of Helen Maude Dean at seven months old
Miss Helen Maude Dean daughter of Editor Ralph J Dean died Sunday night at Michael Reese hospital Chicago aged seven months and seventeen days from acute hemorrhagic nephritis and purulent bronchitis. She had been cared for at Chandler hospital Compton then Chicago with a baby specialist. Funeral held Tuesday at two o clock conducted by Rev Alfred E Simester and Rev Alexander English with interment in Ashton cemetery beside her brother.

In Atchison county circuit court H F Staple sued Charles Traub for long standing arrears including 16 years of the Atchison County Mail. Traub claimed non receipt but postmasters testified he did take the paper. Jury awarded full amount $24 plus about $100 in costs. Law holds subscribers must pay arrears before stopping delivery. Similar appellate ruling cited.

A large primary class starts, a high school through eighth grade will admit diploma holders without exam, and book changes aim to benefit the school.
