Funeral Held for Mrs Edward Herwig in Ashton
Large concourse of relatives and friends attended yesterday’s funeral for Mrs Edward Herwig born April 19 1887 in Bradford township. She taught in Reynolds and home districts, married Edward Herwig in 1910, lived on farms in China township then Ashton. Active in Bradford United Evangelical church, she led Willing Workers Bible study and taught in Relool. she died at 32 years, 4 months. Funeral at the late home and Ashton United Evangelical church with interment in Ashton cemetery.

Chateau Thierry Hero Returns Home Safe
Earl E. Pierce of the 6th regiment of Marines arrives home from war, accompanied by Florence Stackpole from Dixon. Enlisted May 16, 1917, he was the first Ashton boy in France and saw action in the Second division at Chateau Thierry and Belleau Wood, surviving five major engagements after two years overseas.

Ogle Sheriff Aided Booze Raids and Next Week Fair
A raid on Edward E K Haller’s drug store in Forreston Ogle County yielded twelve hundred pints of whiskey. Sheriff George B Banning Ward Thompson and others seized the liquor found in the attic. The liquor was traced to Chicago and shipped to Forreston, with Haller to be prosecuted under state and federal laws. North Western Passenger Service Restored After Disruption
Passenger service is back to normal on the North Western as train No 18 resumes at 11 30 am Monday. The Sterling westbound train returned Friday, eastbound Saturday, Cedar Rapids eastbound 3 07 pm Saturday. Freight and way freight also operated well, keeping goods flowing to smaller towns.
