Conventions Held at Amboy Elects Strong Local Tickets
Amboy hosted both Republican and Democratic county conventions last Thursday drawing large delegations from Ashton and surrounding towns. Delegates named nominees for county judge John P. Devine, county clerk Frank G. Emert, sheriff A. C. Moeller, county treasurer Frank Vaughn, and superintendent Abraham Ackert with party officers and a broad central committee announced. The meetings closed in harmony with a reinforced, strong ticket anticipated to perform well.

Old Resident Milligan Hunt Dies at 85 in Franklin Grove
Milligan Hunt of Franklin Grove died after a two day illness at his home aged 85. Born July 29, 1821 in Indiana, he captained flat boats between Terra Haute and New Orleans before moving to Illinois. He married Nancy Ann Reed on November 19, 1845 and later moved to Franklin Grove forty years ago. He and Nancy celebrated both golden and sixtieth anniversaries. He was survived by five children, ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He had shipped the first Northwestern freight to Chicago in December 1848.

Indian Burial Grounds Skeletons Found in Galt Pit
For weeks skeletons have been removed from the gravel pit at Galt which foreman John Morrissey suspects sits on an old Indian burying ground. He owns a toma hawk and beads uncovered there as relics. Six skeletons and relics were found about four feet deep. the dredge tears remains, so complete finds are unlikely. Work may uncover more skeletons as digging moves northward. C. W. Jonker visited Rochelle on business last week.
