Franklin Grove Barber Robbed. Miller Held on Bond
William Westfield, Franklin Grove barber, was robbed by a lone highwayman who searched his pockets and nearly $54 in a potato patch. Lloyd Miller, 19, was arrested on a $500 bond after his hat was found at the scene. Miller claims a thief took only his hat and a dollar. The town remains stirred after recent safes and robberies.

Mrs Barbara Reitz Dead After Long Ashton Resident Life
Mrs Barbara Elizabeth Reitz died Thursday at her daughter Mrs Adam Faber's home, aged 71 years six months and 21 days. Born January 7 1839 in Nieder Dinse nbach Germany she married Adam Reitz and emigrated to America in the 1860s. Survived by six children Henry Mary Gleim Tony John Will Dora Faber and 20 grandchildren. Funeral held at St Johns Lutheran Ashton with Interment in Ashton cemetery. Bradford 18 Ashton 7. Petition for Road Denied by Township Officials
A Saturday hearing before Ashton township Highway Commissioners denied a petition for a road along the southern boundary of sections 25 and 26. John Schade led the drive for an outlet to his farm while Howard Quick opposed it on behalf of many property owners. The council then addressed street bills, tile requests for the United Evangelical church, a proposed band stand, a sidewalk dispute, fence moving extensions, and gas plant roof repairs.

West End Livery Barn Reacquires Proprieter Status
William Killmer regains ownership of the West End Livery Barn after a sequence of trades involving W C Schafer Jacob Aschenbrenner and James Richardson residence. Killmer previously ran the barn before selling in 1908 and takes immediate possession. The L. W. Place barber shop on Fourth St was bought this week by Earl E Bemis who plans to reside in the Southwest soon and continue in business. The Mississippi River is very low with navigation halted for large boats and many fish dying in dwindling sloughs. Baseball supplies are for sale at the Gazette Book Store. The Ashton Gazette costs $1.50 annually.

Veteran Civil War Soldier William W. Webster Dies at 74
William W. Webster, a Civil War veteran and longtime Lee County resident near Nachusa, died Sunday evening at his home after a fall in 1908 and subsequent complications. He was born February 23, 1836 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and was survived by his wife of 86 years, two sons, a stepdaughter, and five brothers in the East. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Presbyterian church in Dixon, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
