H L Goodrow of Peoria Life promotes mortgage protection policies to cover debts upon death. The ad cites examples of saved farms and rents, noting bankers favor life insurance with loans and recalling a farmer whose mortgage was paid by a Peoria Life claim. It urges farmers and merchants to insure indebtedness and safeguard heirs.
School notes recount a syllabus of activities and events. The Story of Coal reels loaned by the Bureau of Mines this week. Florence Gleim was absent due to illness. An upcoming orchestra and glee club concert is planned for late May to early June. Harold Myers visited Mt Vernon Iowa and attended the Cornell College Track meet as a spectator. Two agriculture students care for a small orchard with trimming and spraying starting. Godwyn shows interest in a ladies style book. A physiology question asks if dust is as dangerous as once believed and why breathing is bad. Kenneth Moore missed school for a sore tooth. The mining of coal pictures impressed the high school. Ashton entries win second place in the literary contest. Ethel wonders where her candy went from physiology class. The Lee County Track Meet is set for May sixth at Paw Paw with eleven boys likely to enter.
The Sunday school convention for District No 2 including Ashton Bradford China and Nachusa townships meets Sunday at 2 PM at the Presbyterian church with a program of devotions reports vocal solo symposium and elections. Also notices of county gatherings and school reunions are listed with dates in May and April.
St Johns Lutheran Church holds Sunday School and Bible Class at 1:80 o clock, English services at 10:30 a m, Teacher's Meeting Friday 7:80 p m. Lesson Isaiah 6 1 13 topic service to which God calls us. Lady s Aid meets at Mrs Henry Semmler Thursday 2 p m. Pastor Henry Foelsch.
The 78th Illinois Conference Evangelical Association met at Mendota April 19 28 with Bishop L H Seager presiding and Rev E Burgi as secretary. The body voted unanimously to unite with the United Evangelical church and 73 votes were cast. Permission was granted to sell the Ashton church as Rev W Albrecht ends his pastorate and moves to Belvidere Rev J G Feucht of Pearl City is assigned to Ashton.
April 30 1922 notes announce 10 am Sunday school 2 pm conventorn in church and 6 pm Christian Endeavor led by Ruth Pfeiffer with topic applying religion to everyday life. A Thursday prayer service at 7 30 pm led by Mrs J A Wagner. Pastor Merril T MacPherson invites all.
The Geneva Republican reports the marriage of Mrs. I J Aiken to Samuel R. Knox on Easter Sunday in Ashton. The ceremony united at the English home with a small circle present, followed by dinner and a Chicago trip. Knox buys a North Sixth street home. Knox-Bauder Jewelry Co. continues in Elburn. Building activity spreads east end town with new blacksmith shop, a modernized three story gates building turned into apartments, new windows, stucco, and a large junk shed by Hymen Levin. Miss Miriam Fackler of Ashton earns Phi Beta Kappa at Beloit College for academic excellence and campus leadership. Sunday religious services show strong attendance and planned sermons on The Apostolic Church plus choir and youth activities.
United Evangelical Church Ashton holds Thursday prayer at 7 30 p m and studies Eph. Also Sunday services with Sunday school at 9 30 and preaching at 10 30. Township convention at Presbyterian church means no next Sunday services. A May wedding unites Joli Joyce and Anna Kaecker via Rev Brandfellner and they plan to live on the Henry Ewald farm in Reynolds township.
Novelty Party announced by Odd Fellows and families and Rebekahs in the T O O F hall Friday evening April 28 with music and free novelties and lunch admission 50c. Card of Thanks extends gratitude to friends for help during illness and death of mother Mrs Katherine Krug and for floral tributes. Queen Esthers announce regular business meeting at the church Monday May 1 including annual matte box opening and election of officers and dues payment.
Large concourse of friends gathered at United Evangelical Church to pay last respects to Catherine Elizabeth Krug nee Dill born 1842 in Germany. She died Monday at her daughter’s home after a fall and diabetes, aged 72 years five months seven days, survived by two children, a stepson, sister, nine grandchildren, and many relatives. Funeral held at her daughter’s home then United Evangelical church, interment Bradford cemetery. entertainment listings followed in the Gazette.
