George M. Shippy Chicago’s first native born police chief dies at 59 at his home 6421 Monroe Ave. He rose from patrolman in 1887 to captain and chief, famed for the car barn bandit case and the Stensland bank crash. He survived an 1908 anarchist attack on his home and faced mental decline before death. He leaves wife Sadie and children Harry and Georgetta.

Quiet village election returns 97 straight tickets cast
The village election Tuesday proceeded quietly with 188 total votes. Mayor J. B. Farrer defeated Faust H. Boyd 121 to 67. George Schinzer’s vote faced a challenge but was allowed after the judge ruled him a Bradford township citizen and taxpayer. Voting results list multiple trustees and the village clerk race. George Payler visited from Broadhead Wisconsin and gifted a horn hall tree and a 126 year old violin to Donald Rosecrans.
