Widow Eliza Cable Dies After Burn Injury in Ashton Franklin Grove
Eliza Marguerite Cable aged 83 9 months 23 days died from burns suffered Saturday when her clothing caught fire while burning rubbish at home. A longtime Ashton resident later living in Franklin Grove she was known as Grandma Cable and active in local churches. Funeral services were held at her home and in the Ashton Methodist church with Rev. Fred A. Graham officiating.

The Liberty Loan drive surpassed its quota at two patriotic meetings last week with Lafayette Township over the top and Ash ton aiming to match. In Lafayette, a first jump pushed the quota to 15,000 dollars as Clarence Gardener of Rochelle spoke and the local band played while the committee led by Arthur Dugdale prepared for further subscriptions. Reynolds and Bradford townships also held meetings to recruit subscribers as the drive proceeds.
