The April village council meeting approved a lengthy ordinance setting rules for building drainage and sewer connections. It requires three day notice before excavation, bonds to indemnify the village, and permits to connect with sewers, with bonds adjustable for protection and penalties for negligence.

Prominent Ambony Man Dead After Illness and Plans for Chautauqua Made

Perry Walter Mason, longtime auctioneer and charter member of Green River Lodge No. 999 I O C F, died at his Mason Street home after a two week illness. He leaves wife Martha and three children, Wayne, Alta, and Elva, plus siblings and extended family. Funeral 2 PM Friday at the Baptist church with Odd Fellows rites. interment at Prairie Repose. Mason helped push for Amboy to become dry territory and circulated a petition for the city election.

Clifford Knapp Re-Elected Highway Commissioner

Clifford Knapp was elected highway commissioner of Ashton township by a 64 vote margin over Le Roy Farrer in a high turnout election totaling 364 voters. In Bradford township 48 votes were cast with a single ticket, Reynolds township repealed the poll tax by a four vote majority, and 36 votes were polled with no opposition. A reception for Rev. and Mrs. F W Landner newly appointed pastor will be held at United Evangelical church Friday evening. Mauve Tyler has moved her millinery stock to a new building and urges patronage. Eggs for hatching are for sale from Mary Schafer.

Doings of the High School in Ashton District

Misses Erma Reigle Elna Sunday Irene Fruit and Elgy Averille visited on Wednesday afternoon March 28 Austin Butler attended Monday. Seniors had an English test Tuesday. Eighth grade exams were given yesterday at the Ashton High School building with districts pupils participating. Mr Andrus Griffith resumed studies as health improves. Prospects for a high school baseball team look good though material is short. Miss Mary Myers visited Thursday and Friday while in Ashton for spring vacation. Freshman Sophomore Junior game last Saturday left the lower classes quiet after a 15 to 8 subs defeat.

Funeral services held for beloved local figure

The obituary notes a heart void of resentment endeared him to all. Funeral services were held from his late home yesterday at 9 30 and from St John s Lutheran church at 10 15 with Rev G Mack officiating.

Funeral Held for Conrad Meister Founder of St. John's

Conrad Meister, 81, lifelong Lee county resident and founder of St. John's Lutheran Church, died last Sunday night after influenza. Born December 7, 1835 in Wald Rappel Kurhesse Germany he arrived in 1846, married Rosanna Heller 1855 and raised eight children. Survived by seven children, twenty five grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. He helped settle the region from a barren wilderness to a thriving farming community.
