The Actuary warns that accumulated Sick and Funeral Funds abroad shortfalls signal insolvency risk for several old New Zealand lodges. Wellington September 17 The Arbitration Court at Napier found the Wairoa butcher guilty of breach of award but did not fine him after the employer paid back wages. The secretary of the Butchers Union argues the man performed general hand duties, while the employer faced costs to attend the hearing. The total back pay involved amounts to 9.35 pounds, with the worker to receive no claim.
In Hokitika on September 18 David William Jones was found not guilty of theft of gold at Reefton. The Westport perjury case and the Oliva robbery were set for next Mondays. Actaveas Foote was acquitted on assault and robbery at Denniston. Civil business follows. Perjury hearing in the Westport murder case set for Monday and may last ten days.
