At the Warm way Union annual meeting in Ashburton, G W Leadley and John Studholme refused committee seats, charging critics with envy of small farmers. Other members urged unity, defending the Union as a protective body for small holders against large landowners. Applause followed as the session moved on to other business.

Australia’s Future and the Young Australia Question

Mr Ramsay MacDonald contrasts three Australian factions: a London‑leaning elite, a small wealthy Imperialist group, and the broad mass of common people who cherish the Mother Country yet seek independence. He notes Young Australia as radical nationalist, allied with Labour and unions, advocating Australian policy and goods, opposing London borrowing, and demanding local raw materials. The question remains if it can harmonize with Empire under Conservative rule.
