Wheat offerings fall and demand exceeds supply as threshers draw in. Wheat stocks are scarce across the district with little expected from thin areas until harvest. Priced quotes include Canadi 23 1 2d to 23 8 2d and oats 23 4d to 31 6d. Chaff demand rises as cutters stay busy and turnouts are delivered. Turnip crops fail, increasing future chaff need if weather worsens. Prime quality 82s 6d on trucks at near stations.

Winchmore April Weather Report Details Rain and Frost

April at Winchmore weather station recorded 3906 units of precipitation with specific daily totals including 33 on the 1st and 41 on the 16th. The heaviest fall occurred over 14 hours totaling 1.60 inches. The first light frost of the year appeared on April 2 at 3 degrees.

Over the past month rainfall at Rakaia totaled 1.67 inches. Eleven days showed rainfall with a peak of 0.95 inches on the 27th. A sharp frost occurred on the 29th, with the gauge recording 5.67 degrees.

From London on May 2 Dalgety and Co report New Zealand lamb prices rising by fractions, frozen mutton in light weights in demand while heavy weights dull. Australian lamb 2 to 40 pounds at 134, Australian mutton under 50 pounds at 334. Hides dull and declining. Butter market weak. Copenhagen crusts unchanged at 4s, salted 96s. UK butter imports for week ending April 27 total 88,090 cwt versus 72,000 last year.

The anal fortnightly stock sale at the Rakaia yards drew a fair attendance with nearly full clearance. Prices realized ranged from £2 17s 6d for a standout steer to varied returns for lambs, sheep, and breeding stock, including merino and crossbred categories.
