Ashburton Winter Show Opens with Poultry and Foal Classes

The Ashburton A and P Association Winter Show opened in the Arcade with strong entries from across the county. Exhibits included dogs, poultry, and a new foal glass section, while judges worked through delays in the poultry division.

Opening Ceremony Highlights County Show and Community Support

The opening at 2.30 p.m. featured Mrs Reid introducing speakers and the Mayor Mr Fr Davis praising turnout and exhibits. He noted outstanding root crops and urged more farmer participation to ease burdens. Suggestions included garden produce in town plots, school garden classes, and co operation with the Ashburton Horticultural Society. The Poultry Association’s setback over export grading was discussed, and thanks were given to helpers before the exhibition officially opened.
