From Our Own Correspondent in Christchurch on June 14 the local grain market sits quiet with little wheat or oats business and no buyers. Potatoes show firmness with good samples valued at about $1 per ton higher than inferior stock, though demand remains limited to local needs.
A submarine accident aboard the Portemenuth causes Lieut Hart to be severely injured and die in hospital. Two stokers are also reported injured amid the incident.
