A lengthy council meeting debated electric lighting and the electric railroad, with references to bids, poles, and a pending franchise. Officials discussed street sprinkling, park improvements, parade regulations, and police enforcement while postponing final decisions on wire-cutting and lighting contracts.
Thursday marks the Ocean Hotel season opening after months of repairs and improvements. A peculiar fire broke out early Sunday at the home of Henry D White contractor on Corlles avenue opposite Unexcelled Engine West Grove. His son Harry woke to heat and smoke and aroused the family who escaped with minor injuries. Two children of Mrs Chamberlain were in danger of suffocation but were rescued by servant Kane.
Alarmed crowds heard the Ocean Grove bell as a fire broke out, with the Sted whistle joining in.
