Walter W. Davis Dies Suddenly in Asbury Park
Walter Watson Davis, 32, a prominent Asbury Park furniture dealer, died Sunday night at 6:45 at the Surf House after a brief illness supected to follow a cold contracted during a fishing trip. He read his will minutes before death, witnessed by Milan Rosa and Attorney Frank Durand. Surviving include his wife, a child, his parents, a brother Charles Davis of Asbury Park, and sister Mrs. Anthony Wooley of Long Branch. Davis was a former bank employee turned merchant with a large Grand and Summerfield sales complex. Judge Wilbur A. Helsley delivered the Independence Day oration praising patriotism and cautioning against war while noting public officials must uphold integrity.

Leap to safety as carriage and horse struck by train at Belmar crossing

Lightning Sets Grand Avenue Furniture Warehouse Ablaze
A Wednesday afternoon fire caused by a lightning strike damaged a two story furniture warehouse at the northeast corner of Railroad and Springwood avenues in Ocean Grove. Fire departments from Asbury Park and Ocean Grove contained the blaze to the upper floor, with losses estimated around 3500 for stock and 800 for the building, and about 5000 people witnessed the event.
