Local option dead as a nail in state politics

Abolition of spring elections and biennial session proposals draw focus this winter. Local option bill would require triannual votes on licenses, limiting renewals to one year if approved. Legislature may also consider state house expansion and a new Senate chamber, with current delays blamed on cramped quarters.

Church Choirs Cut Costs Prompt Departures

The First Presbyterian Church eliminates its paid choir at year start while Madam Ogden Crane resigns as director of the First Baptist Church choir effective February 1. Heavy mail arrival at Asbury Park post office breaks record

The Asbury Park post office received the heaviest inbound mail on record this morning. Traditionally trucks carried the mall to the office, but officials had to use a United States Express wagon. Carriers loaded up to their heads before departure.
