Multiple Asbury Park churches prepare special Christmas music tomorrow. First Methodist and First Presbyterian feature morning and evening programs under Miss Vanderveer and choir leaders. Grand Avenue Reformed, St Pauls Ocean Grove, and First Baptist also schedule seasonal offerings with soloists and choruses.
A Christmas program at the First Baptist Church features the primary department directed by Mrs. W. C. Weeden and Miss Mabel C. Vaughn. The cantata Who Is Santa Claus will be presented, followed by the school’s Christmas festival. Rehearsals for Gabriel’s All Hall to Santa Claus, a patriotic cantata about America’s possessions, will form the main feature.
On Monday Allenhurst residents will vote on issuing bonds of 83 000 for the purchase of the beach front. Indications point to a majority in favor of the bond issue. Voters anticipate a substantial Christmas present in the form of a lasting benefit.
Concessions from the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Centre Railroad companies guarantee track elevation in Newark by covering about half the damages. The total cost is roughly $600,000.
Real estate and furniture ads promote M. M. Crosbie's houses at 508 Main Street with immediate possession in six or nine room options. Barnard's stock urged for Christmas gifts and New Year's cards, with engraving services and open evenings.
A. L. Sieghortner of Deal has accepted a key role to launch a sugar refinery in New Orleans. He began in 1871 with Decastro & Donner, led refineries for Havemeyer & Co and Green Point, built the Belchlerg plant, and helped erect the Spreckels sugar refinery in Philadelphia. His health declined from overwork, and his family ties with the Deal Country Club and Capital City Club are noted.
Forty two patients are under treatment at Monmouth Memorial Hospital today. This week’s arrivals include James Griffin of Asbury Park who fell from a building at Elberon with slight injuries, William Horley of Asbury Park operated for hernia, Mr. Robinson of Matawan operated for appendicitis, Edward Bailey of Keyport a typhoid patient, and Mrs Carrie Rhodes of Red Bank a surgical patient.
Almanac notes December 21 and 22 share equal daylight but today sun's declination is slightly higher than yesterday. Declination shifts by two seconds of measurement, amounting to part of a second of time, a curiosity for those tracking celestial angles.
A meeting of the Republican League Club at Park Hall last night reported progress on finding permanent quarters. Monmouth Memorial Hospital announces new staff members who will report January 1. Dr. James Chasey of Long Branch joins as physician and Dr. E T Field of Red Bank joins as surgeon.
Asbury Park notices advertise Barnard's for rich cut glass and monogram stationery. The Jounna offers monogram engraving at 2.50 and aoe stationery at ten cents a quire. Also touted is a finest line of correspondence paper and a Barnard’s ad on page three by Joseph C. Patterson licensed auctioneer.
An advertisement offers next Monday's Daily Journal with a free half tone reproduction of the newspaper's Christmas Madonna image. The print is 11 by 15 inches on fine paper, suitable for framing, available to newsdealers for one cent.
Charles Ross former leading man in Weber and Fields company resigns over a minor role dispute and, with wife Mabel Fenton, shifts focus to vaudeville. His exit prompts a quick replacement. Ross owns the Deal Jake Ross Fenton Farm and has appeared in local theater in Asbury Park.
Councilman George F. Wilbur reports no word from Mr. Bradley after a Common Council resolution urged him to convey the beach to the city by mutual transfer. The beach purchase committee waits anxiously, hoping a Christmas communication may arrive.
Englishtown boasts the tallest man Vought Burke and five fat men totaling 1415 pounds. The heaviest is Lewis E. Doty at 880 pounds, with others include Craig C. Fiemt ing 265 pounds Charles F. McDonald 240 pounds Charles Hoff man 270 pounds and W L Con over 260 pounds. Doty tours as Uncle Sam and the group resists having their pictures taken.
Christmas notices and business briefs fill space as police courts ease while civil matters keep magistrates busy. The church plans to disband after the new year due to choir costs. Advertisements promote Bannard's and Steinbach stores with sales on ladies wear, engravings, invitations, Morris chairs, and gift items.
Mrs W P Snedeker of Livingston Park near New Brunswick saved her three children from a fatal fire yesterday though she suffered severe burns. The fragile day’s other items include a Flemington veteran murdered for his money and arson used to cover the crime, plus various local court and crime notes from Newark Trenton Paterson Jersey City and New Brunswick.
Snow last night forced the postponement of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association's 31st founding anniversary celebration. A small group attempted to attend at Association Hall but were turned away, as the same program will be held tonight.
Mrs. Cornelia P. Holmes longtime president of the Ladies Ald Society of the First Baptist Church of Asbury Park was surprised at her Bradley Beach home by friends. Tokens of affection were left as the group wished her a joyful Christmas and she thanked them, saying she would cherish the memory.
Frost fish run in large quantities with night beach gathering as the favorite method. Those fishing for profit use nets to make large catches and fetch about three and a half cents a pound in New York markets. The Journal advertises gifts including Edison phonographs, Bannard's bric-a-brac and Steinbach clothing sales, plus autograph engraving services and cheap Bristol cards.
