Park Hall Meeting Splits in Neptuna Township GOP Nominations

An Open Air meeting at Park Hall drew 200 voters as Watson and Appleby factions staged rival sessions to nominate and elect members to the Neptuna Township Republican Executive Committee. Officers elected included Mayor Frank Ten Broeck as chairman and E R Tindall as secretary with a ticket cast by acclamation.

Assessments Reduced After Aubury Park Appeal Friday

The Commissioners of Appeal for Aubury Park reduced T. J. Ryan’s lot at First and Ocean from 6000 to 5500 due to neighborhood lower valuations. Asbury Park Amusement Company’s toboggan ride assessment at Third and Ocean was upheld. Eugene English, Victoria Hotel owner, had $1000 personal property assessment cut, as it is owned by and assessed to hotel proprietor Sophie Kemp.

Sentences for assaults and thefts at Asbury Park area

William Jobacon, colored, sentenced to state prison after being found guilty of luring Alice Mosely, a white woman, to commit a crime at Weat Asbury Park. John Morrison, charged with assault on Fannie Watkins, to pay $25 and costs or endure sentence. Ellwood Moyers, colored, assault charge suspended until January 4, 1900. Harry Cottrell confessed to stealing a horse and cigars at Asbury Park, fined $20 and costs. other related actions noted.

Rump Republicans Name Township Officers at Park Hall Meeting

The Rump Republican Township Executive Committee met in William Giffard's office after an upstairs gathering and appointed officers including chairman T Frank Appleby and vice-chairman George F Kroebl. Representatives to the county executive committee were W Kirkbride Hubbard Giffard and Dodd.

Parson Ferris Talks on Labor to Carpenters Union Smoker

Rev M L Ferris spoke at a Mikado building smoker of the Joyal Carpenters and Joiners Union on Labor. He opposed some prevailing views of the working man and labor unions, recalled his own failed bid to join the union, praised cooperation between workers and employers, and noted the union’s growing strength with 720 new members in the past month.

Thanksgiving Ten Mile Road Race by Knights of the Golden Eagle

A ten mile road race through city streets on Thanksgiving Day drew cyclists from the Knights of the Golden Eagle. Starting at Ocean and Asbury avenues, the course looped Ocean Fifth Grand Asbury Ocean and finished at Grand and Asbury. Joseph Harrison won the prize with J C Brower taking the first honor prize. Times list various handicap and scratch results, led by Harrison at 28.45 and Brower at 29.00 amid a field including Tilton Hope Margorum Lipplecott Reynolds King Squires and others. Choral Union to Stage Sun Parlor Fund Benefit

Ocean Grove and Asbury Park Choral Union will host an entertainment on the 10th under the Asbury Park Board of Trade to raise funds for beach sun parlors. Congregationalists Call Dr Dwight Marvin For Pastorate

Dr Dwight Edwards Marvin pastor of Germantown Congregational Church has been called to lead the First Congregational Church in the city. The congregation voted Tuesday night and expects an official call this week with a salary of $2000 annually. Marvin, a midlife speaker and organizer, has led his current church 11 years and built it from 25 to over 400 members.

Empire Baths Project Meeting Postponed Opening Plans

The meeting to open the Empire pool and baths, scheduled for Monday, was postponed. Committees in charge of selling membership and coupon tickets say tickets are available at real estate firms and the Board of Trade. After selling 2,000 dollars worth of tickets, the baths will open in 10 days.

Enemies Oppose Former Pastor at Local Church Meeting

At a First Congregational Church gathering, leaders overturned earlier praise and recommendation for former pastor Rev. Widdemer. The move, tied to a consideration of calling Rev. Dr. Marvin to the field, annulled prior commendations and letters of dismissal, amid conflict over the pastorate and church relations.

Thirty members competed at Bradley Beach on Thanksgiving morning with two teams led by Lieutenants Guerin and White. Guerin's team won 255 to 196 and took the team badge. Harry L. Wiseman led scoring with 29 points and a bull's eye, while Guerin also had 29 points. John H. Ryne and Harry Martle added 27 and 23 points respectively for White and Guerin teams, with George Taylor and Joseph Stanton 21 each for Guerin.

Rev Ransom Harvey to Preach at First Congregational

Rev Dr Love currently supplies the First Congregational Church while awaiting a new pastor. Harvey, finishing eight years at Germantown Third Baptist, will lead services on the 10th and 17th of the month and conduct Friday evening meetings prior.
