Rebels and Exiles Report Clash Near Dominican Border
Haitian troops clashed with about 20 rebels last week some 20 miles from the Dominican frontier. Two Haitian soldiers were wounded. Rebels aimed to reach interior mountains to form a guerrilla base against President Francois Duvalier and sought contact with the National Liberation Front. Dominican authorities denied knowledge of the clash but feared border crossings and mass Haitian exodus into the Dominican Republic amid 300,000 Haitians living illegally there.
