A gleaming stainless steel gas stove with a 41-gallon stew pot tops Mission Valley School's food program. Six cooks led by Mrs Ethel Wittenberger will prepare hot lunches for Mission Valley Linda Vista Mission Elementary and Durham schools using the pot and a double compartment steamer to cook green beans in 18 minutes. The new setup places the pot at waist level, easing cooking and ladling.

Hitchhiker Kidnaps and Robs Santa Clara Man
A 12-year-old Santa Clara sales man was held at knife point for six hours during a cross-country ride after being picked up on the Nimitz Freeway. The kidnapper forced him to drive south on Calaveras Road before fleeing with $220 and the car keys near Kilkare Road in Sunol. The incident ended with the victim dumped in tall weeds and the assailant escaping on foot.

Hayward Man Killed in Richmond Narcotics Deal Shooting
Richmond police sought an arrest warrant for an unnamed suspect after a shooting on a Richmond street left Jerry D. Onstott a 29 year old Hayward carpenter dead. His companion Sergio A. Solorzano 27 of Redwood City was wounded and hospitalized in critical condition.
