US predicts half of oil needs to be imported by 1985
San Francisco based industry leaders at the American Petroleum Institute meeting warned that the United States will import about 50 percent of its oil by 1985, driven by limited domestic energy supplies and a shift away from coal and nuclear power. API officials argued government restraint stifles development, urging the industry to push for rational policy to accelerate domestic energy production.
