The Alameda County Employees' Association’s wage dispute went to Judge Gordon Minder after a two day trial in superior court. A decision is not expected until after November 18. Witnesses, including a seasonal clerk and hospital staff, argued that the civil service board relied on state salary data and underpaid 3,000 county workers, who received only 2.5 percent raises last July with 25 percent due in January. County Counsel James Jeffries defended the board with three witnesses from the personnel office and Highland Hospital.

South County manager Thomas Konovaloff says a new Alameda County directory could publish earlier than next October and that a full reprint would cost about 240000. Merchants and city officials urged reprinting but Konovaloff argues the sticker letter plan is the fairest and most economical and fastest solution.
