Racism in America prompts new commission booklet
The US Commission on Civil Rights released Racism in America and How to Combat It, a 43 page booklet by Dr Anthony Downs. Aimed at boosting discussion on race relations, it outlines causes of racism and nine strategies to counteract it, urging whites to recognize institutional subordination and empower minority groups through targeted programs and alliances. The report, led by Rev Theodore M Meshurgh of Notre Dame, is the first in a planned series on racism.
