Weapons Reach U.S. Revolutionaries via Vietnam War Mail
Federal officials fear servicemen in Vietnam smuggle rifles carbines pistols and explosives to U.S. revolutionaries. Customs at West Coast post offices report dozens of weapons seized weekly with many more slipping through. A 1958 one day check found hundreds in a day, suggesting ongoing stockpiling figures. More than 400 weapons and explosives may enter weekly via air mail facilities with about 25 interceptions weekly.

California Supreme Court strikes down disclosure law
The California Supreme Court ruled the last year enacted financial disclosure statute unconstitutional. In a 6-2 decision the court held the broad requirements for private financial interests over ten thousand dollars by public officers and high ranking employees unconstitutional. The ruling came in a Carmel-By-The-Sea case and noted the law intruded into private affairs without relating disclosures to actual conflicts of interest.

Assemblyman proposes voluntary commitment bill in California
Sacramento Assemblyman Pete Wilson introduces a plan to allow voluntary commitment to local mental health clinics for individuals arrested for drug use or possession. The measure aims to encourage treatment by removing arrest risks and would fund school counselors to direct students to help, with first-arrest detention records instead of charges. Local clinics are scarce in many counties, but major areas like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego would have facilities.
