Poverty Agency Plans Economic Aid and Training Grants
Antipoverty workers at the Southern Alameda County Economic Opportunity Agency, led by Director Robero Acns, will collaborate with educators and business leaders on business development and training. A $25,000 study grant funds programs for low income and minority groups, with eight months to a year of support. Three projects were funded recently, and a $10,000 training grant will supplement field work for about 70 staff, addressing the low educational attainment of more than 90 percent without high school diplomas. Additional grants include $5,000 for United Church of Christ Hayward child care renovation, $40,000 for senior citizen nutritional distribution training starting April 1, and a $100,000 federal application to expand Youth Manpower Program counseling and college guidance for low income and minority high school students.
