Odyssey of a chicken from egg to a dog's life
The Carlson family of Newark keeps Golden Eagle, a fluffy white chicken who acts and is treated like a dog. Rod Carlson, then 16, saved the egg from a butchered hen and raised the chick in an incubator, leading to a pet beloved by five dogs and 13 neighbor cats. Golden Eagle perches in the garage, lays a large egg daily, and and Puppy the dog loyally guards and even kisses her, creating a unique, lively farmyard scene in Newark.
