Saigon to abandon pia as Vietnam shifts to silk zone
Vietnam announced plans to clear Saigon of most people by 1979 and redirect former traders to Gia Lanh in Dong Province. The area will become southern Vietnam's largest raw silk center employing about 50,000, with mulberry farming and silkworm work.
