PUC cuts south state phone rates in relief plan
The California PUC ordered a rate reduction for residential and business lines at Pacific Telephone to ease bills. Residential cuts are about 30 cents monthly and business cuts around 40 cents, with refunds planned to start by August 12. The move follows a January 1975 rate hike by Pacific Telephone and a prior $7.5 million yearly increase.

EPA cites lower sulfuric acid emissions from catalytic cars in LA study
The EPA reports measurements from Los Angeles freeway tests show sulfuric acid aerosol levels were substantially lower with catalytic sulfates per cubic meter of air and unlikely to pose a threat. Earlier concerns in 1972 about suture emissions faded as catalysts reduced hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, though questions remained about public health impacts. The LA test leveraged its heavy traffic, low competing sulfur sources, and strict CA standards.
