Government cancels two offshore oil leases
Interior Secretary Cecil Andrus announced the cancellation of two Gulf of Mexico oil and gas leases for lack of activity. He extended 11 others with conditions or extended existing ones, and ordered data collection on leases granted for lengthy extensions. The moves target preventing gas shortages and align with energy policy to boost production on existing offshore wells.
